3 Good Reasons For Keeping A Weight Loss Journal
Sometimes exercise and dieting can make you feel morose and depressed; but why does weight loss have to be that way? Does weight loss really have to be such a study in suffering? Not necessarily so. Dieting and exercise can be fun and exciting if you add a little something else to the mix. Why not try keeping a weight loss journal?
Why does it matter? Well, here are 3 good reasons why keeping a weight loss journal can help you on your journey towards a slimmer you:
Food Habits... Written Down
Dieting can be either easy or it can be hard. It is all based on the diet you choose, and whether or not you can honestly stick to it. Keeping a food diary is one way to keep track of what you put in your mouth.
Making a food diary is easy. Create columns and label them with the date, time, food, calories, and reason. You can do as many columns as you want, with whatever column headings you want. Make sure you at least write down the date, time, and reason. Reason? Yeah! You want to write down WHY you are eating. Sometimes you are eating because you are hungry and sometimes you eat simply because you are bored or emotional. Writing down the reason you are eating helps to keep you honest, and when you look back through the weight loss diary you can see patterns emerge that you couldn't see before. Hindsight is 20/20!
Exercise Routine... On Paper
Writing down what you eat is just a portion of what keeping a weight loss diary is. Sure, what you put in your body is VERY important, but what you do to burn off all that food is important too.
Keeping a weight loss exercise diary of when, what, and how much can really help you stay on track. When you write out what you have been doing, you can see, in ink, what you should be doing differently or what you can improve on. When a month has gone by and you still haven't seen the scale move, you can look back at what you have written down in your exercise diary and see where you went wrong.
A weight loss exercise diary doesn't just have to be a diary; it can also be a goal manager. When writing down what and how much, you can also write down how far you want to go in a given amount of time. If you want to run 10 minutes straight on the treadmill, but you are only doing 3, put down the 10 minutes and work towards it.
Weight Loss Accountability... On Hardcopy
Writing down what you have been eating and your exercise routine can allow you to be held accountable. Keeping a weight loss journal and showing it to someone you trust can seriously improve your chances of success. Knowing that someone is going to watch over you and your progress is a good incentive to do better.
A weight loss journal is an amazing tool that is easy to keep and can make weight loss journey easier on you too.
